Ger C. Bout: The Transparent Dream

The environmental artwork by Ger C. Bout (b.1950), made from galvanised steel wire mesh, is a three-dimensional model representing a traditional Finnish wooden house. With this sculpture, the artist wanted to explore the basic concepts of space and architecture. This transparent two-room “granny cabin” is the embodiment of the idea of small scale architecture. The sculpture is located in the courtyard of the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum, thus lying right on top of Old Turku. Bout’s sculpture seems more like a three-dimensional symmetrical drawing than the small house that has been a dream for many Finns in the time of wooden house design.

The City of Turku acquired the sculpture as part of the Pro Cultura Foundation’s environmental art project.

Ger C. Bout trained to become an architect. As an artist he often combines different art forms in his projects.
